See eye to eye不是看對眼，head to head也不是叫你們頭碰頭

CNN幾日前的一則新聞：

“President-elect Donald Trump went nose-to-nose Wednesday with a press corps itching to cross-examine him after more than five months at arm’s length…”

在保持超過五個月的距離後，總統當選人川普星期三與一群渴望盤問他的媒體近距離接觸…

這邊之所以用“nose to nose”，而不是“face to face”， 是為了強調川普與媒體之間的對立，有點「顛峰對決」的意味。

除了“face to face”、“nose to nose”，讓我們了解身體哪些部位的對對碰可以產生意外火花：

head to head

head to head：公開、直接的矛盾或競爭；正面交手。

We will go head to head with this company at Computex.

（X）我們的老闆跟對方的老闆會在電腦站頭碰頭。
（O）我們和這間公司將在電腦展上正面交手。

ear to ear

ear to ear：不是消息從哪兒傳到了哪兒，而是指從臉或脖子的一邊延伸到另一邊，尤指笑容，因而有 “grin (smile) from ear to ear”一詞。

He grinned from ear to ear at the good news.

（X）他從其他人那邊得知好消息。
（O）他聽到好消息後便露齒而笑。

eye to eye

eye to eye：這可不是看對眼的意思，而是「觀點一致」，通常與see 連用。

We don’t see eye to eye.

（X）我們不來電。
（O）我們的觀點不一致。

若要敘述某項觀點時，加“on”；和誰，加“with”。

I don’t see eye to eye with her on the financial crisis.

我和她就金融危機的議題上觀點不一。

mouth to mouth

mouth to mouth：別想太多，就是嘴對嘴的人工呼吸。

I tried mouth to mouth on her but she did not respond.

（X）我試著輕吻她，但她沒回應。
（O）我嘗試對她作嘴對嘴人工呼吸，但她沒反應。

shoulder to shoulder

shoulder to shoulder：就是「並肩作戰」。

We fight shoulder to shoulder to reach the sales target.

（X）我們拍打彼此的肩膀，努力達到銷售目標。
（O）我們並肩作戰，努力達到銷售目標。

heart to heart

heart to heart：字面上是「心連心」，其實是「誠實、坦蕩」的意思，通常與talk、conversation連用。若直接當名詞使用，則代表坦白、開放式的討論，且通常為嚴肅的話題。

I had a heart to heart with the boss here.

（X）我和這裡的老闆寒暄了一番。
（O）我和這裡的老闆仔細談過了。

hand to hand

hand to hand：史蒂芬．席格著名的便是「空手格鬥術」（hand-to-hand combat）。不過 “hand to hand” 不只代表「近身肉搏」，也有「直接交手」、近距離接觸的意思。

Direct hand-to-hand street marketing is quite effective for new shops.

（X）對於新手店家而言，直接送東西到消費者手上的行銷是很有效的。
（O）對於新店家而言，街頭直接行銷是很有效的。
